The Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA) is the governing body for the sport of soccer in the beautiful prairie province of Saskatchewan in central Canada. In 2015, the Association embarked on an ambitious long term plan of organizational development. They had already modernized the structure of their Board of Directors, but they were wanting additional support to embrace policy-based governance.
We were called in to lead the province-wide development of a new membership structure for the Association, while simultaneously developing a new member-focused strategic plan. Essentially, the Association wanted to become more member-driven!
Our work required much consultation with the SSA’s membership to create an inclusive, equitable membership structure that worked for them, supported by a strategic plan that members saw their issues through. By 2017, we had developed a new strategic plan out of member-driven issues and a new membership structure had been approved and adopted by the SSA’s membership.
The result for Saskatchewan Soccer?
- A closer, trusting bond with a membership where there was previously frequent conflict and frustration.
- A productive Boardroom, supported by executive leadership who have strategic direction and the freedom to flourish and shine.
